I need to refocus my health and fitness efforts and I’m doing it with the Beachbody 21 Day Fix

Last year I was introduced to the 21 Day Fix by a Beachbody Coach friend.  I had reached a point in my life where I not only had the reason to focus on my health, but I had the time.  Excuses were no longer valid and I had reached my all time highest weight: 197 pounds.

Previous experience says this works, so I’m going to go with what I know

I wasn’t directed to take any measurements back then besides my weight, so I don’t actually know what my belly size (and quite a few others) were back then.  I do know that after I finished my first round of the 21 Day Fix, I had dropped 20 pounds.  Pretty amazing for three weeks, right?  If you fast forward throughout this past year, I’ve had plenty of distractions.  I kept working out, but I definitely had some concessions when it came to food.  Still, as recently as two months ago, I still had been down a total of 25.5 pounds.  I’m still pretty pleased with that.

But, if you’ve been following me recently, you know that I fell off the trail these past two months.  Today, I’m down still a total of 20.5 pounds, but I also know that in the last few months I’ve not only gained five pounds, but I’ve ballooned up with some visible body fat.  Not good.  Yes, I was taking some time to lick some wounds, but that time is over and I’m set to make even more progress than I’ve previously achieved.

Today starts my third lifetime round of the 21 Day Fix

If you’re not familiar with the 21 Day Fix, it’s a program from Beachbody led by trainer Autumn Calabrese.  I’d initially been attracted to the program due to its portion control food containers and its beginner/intermediate level exercises each only 30 minutes long.

Never before had I had such excellent direction on how to fuel my body nutritionally.  This program takes every day foods and teaches you how to eat them in the proper portions and proportions.  It’s simple, really, just each more vegetables and fruit, less meat and dairy, and plan ahead for your treats.

Each portion control container is color coded for its respective food group.  Green for vegetables, purple for fruits, red for lean meats, yellow for carbs, blue for cheeses or nuts, and orange for oils.  Drink water, primarily, but milk, coffee, tea, and alcohol are permitted in small quantities.  When you begin the program, you follow a simple chart with your weight and find out how many servings of each group you should eat depending on your fitness goals – in my case, to lose body fat/weight.

Total Body Cardio Fix for Day 1

Yes, this is a beginner level exercise program, but considering how far off the trail I’ve been, I have to say I was challenged today.  All the more reason to be back in the game!!  Today’s workout had side shuffles, wood choppers, weighted jog, and some crunches towards the end.  Not tough, but enough of a challenge for me to feel let down by myself how much I let myself slide.  I know that by the end of these 21 days I’m going to nail these workouts again no problem.
