Shipt: On Demand Grocery Delivery

I have been eyeing this service for quite some time!  I finally broke down and signed up – and I’m (so far!) so glad I did.

If you’re anything like me, you end up at the grocery store more than once during the week.  Maybe it’s because you forgot something, or food spoils, or you just plain need something new, but for one reason or another you’re spending all kinds of time going back and forth to the store.

I thought for a long time, “Well I have a car and I’m perfectly capable of getting my own groceries”.  But it’s really come down to the time savings.  I can use my time so much more productively if I’m not packing up my toddler and going to the grocery store 1-4 times per week!!

The solution?  Hire someone to do the shopping for me.

What is Shipt?

Shipt is a startup that looks like it performed well at Techcrunch.  They’re not yet available nationwide, but they are adding new markets fairly aggressively.  I was a little surprised to find that it was available near me here in the Treasure Coast of Florida.

They have Shipt Shoppers sign up to earn extra money and their app allows me and my family to add items to a cart and then when we’re ready, select a delivery window.

My first experience was fantastic.  I was able to stay home with my 3 year old and play / cook dinner while someone ELSE did my grocery shopping.  My shopper’s name was Sheila and I had her profile picture come up as soon as she claimed my order.  Once or twice during her shopping experience, she texted me to let me know she had started, clarified an item I wanted, and when she was finished and on her way to my home.

There is a two week free trial and you can select either a $14 per month plan or a $99 per year plan.  There is no delivery surcharge for orders in excess of $35 and you can make unlimited shopping requests.  The product prices aren’t noticeably higher than store prices, though they are slightly higher.  The real value is in the time savings.  I can get more work done, have more family time, and let someone else take care of this mundane task.
