Let’s Get Chiseled: Beachbody’s Hammer and Chisel
I figured the title “Let’s Get Chiseled” sounded a little better than “Let’s Get Hammered!” I was tempted, but then I’d have to stick with that for 60 days. Ok, so maybe we’ll just use it for today!
LET’S GET HAMMERED!
Ok, now that that’s out of my system. I am pretty excited to be starting a new program today. I’m not sure this program has gotten quite the press some of the other Beachbody programs have and I suppose that’s one of the reasons I was attracted to it. Beachbody’s Hammer and Chisel is co-hosted / co-instructed by Autumn Calabrese and Sagi Kalev.
I have already been through the 21 Day Fix three times with Autumn, but this is my first workout program with Sagi. He’s pretty ripped and that (to me) a non-gym rat / non-jock personality is a little tough to get over. My introduction to him today, though, was pretty satisfactory. I hear he was born in Israel and was a bit of a scrawny kid growing up. He grew tired of being made fun of so he hit the gym and bulked up. I’d say he succeeded. He’s pretty Beastly.
The Program Itself
The Hammer and Chisel program can be completed in one of three basic ways. I am electing to do the full program of 60 days which will provide me a combination of workouts from each of the trainers. You can also do either one or the other. Perhaps in the future, I may do just that, but for now, I want to get the full exposure.
This program requires a few more equipment items that I have used in the past with Beachbody workouts. I have done the 21 Day Fix, Insanity, and P90X3 and equipment for those programs were minimal. This time around, I’ll need weights, a bench or stability ball, pull-up bar, and a mat. Presently, I do not have a bench or a stability ball and I will only consider purchasing one if I absolutely have to. If I can avoid spending the money just now I will. We are still trying to recover from our unexpected vet bills from earlier this year.
The First Workout: Chisel Balance with Autumn Calabrese
Wow! What an introduction. This workout was T.O.U.G.H!! The duration was approximately forty minutes. There were 8 moves (if I counted right) each two sets of 15 reps. As the name of the workout implies, there is a focus on balance in this workout. For example, the Pistol Squat is a weighted squat on one leg with the other leg extended out in front of you. My Day One version of this move was pretty hilarious, honestly. I expect it to be solid by the end of these 8 weeks. It’s going to be a lot of fun to experience the improvement as I progress.
When you purchase this full program from Beachbody you will receive some of their excellent portion control containers. These are the same containers you would receive if you have done the 21 Day Fix. Again, as you look through the course materials there is a worksheet to add your particulars and add up how many servings of each container you are permitted to have daily. Considering the increased difficulty of this program I am going to be that much more committed to saying no to stepping outside these boundaries. I do not want to do all this work and reach the end of the 60 days with a chubby belly still. I must succeed!!
